Well, it is, but there's a blue 'mask' that covers the face thats not in use. The first thing I noticed when transforming into this mode is that the face isn't just the back of the normal robot head.

Maybe a base mode was planned originally?Īnyway, on to the Worker mode. This isn't mentioned in the instructions, nor useable in vehicle mode. Curiously, they actually open on both sides of the calf, creating a little tunnel. Also, it does have AIR lock connectors around where the calves 'split' for transformation. Some have lamented the lack of base mode, but I see this vehicle as a base mode given not only its size, but also how people actually interact with real bucket excavators. Still, the size alone helps stir the imagination- you can cover it with core class figures like they're construction workers, or just let it run over some puny deluxe class figures. It should've had a hinged towards the base of its connection like the claw does. The bucket wheel is stationary unless you unpeg the frame keeping it in place, which is unfortunate. The 'claw' has enough reach and articulation to play around and grab stuff along the sides of the vehicle, though it can't quite reach the front. I think if it were in more realistic or Construction colors it probably would've been more accepted.Įither way, it's a pretty fun alt mode. If anything, it's closer to a real thing than those examples, as it is clearly a futuristic take on a bucket wheel excavator.

I don't see it as any more ridiculous as Scorponok's scorpion mode, with its vestigial legs and uselessly short tail, or Trypticon's imagination-fueled base mode. Maybe I'm just a contrarian but I like this alt mode. Here's a pic with Siege Galaxy Upgrade Optimus Prime for comparison: Needless to say, it's enormous, though it actually is the most compact and portable mode for this figure, given that its basically the robot curling up as tight as it can. Coincidentally, Metroplex was the only planet leader that I didn't own from Galaxy Force, so this version has the benefit of working in both a modern and vintage Galaxy Force planet leader line up.įirst things first, let's start with his alt-mode. Each planet leader had a great character design that perfectly encapsulated what they were supposed to represent, and the whole team looked awesome together. Namely, I loved the Cybertron / Galaxy Force concept of different planets having their own Prime / Convoy, with a theme to match no less. I'll preface this by saying that while I have no attachment to the character, I've always loved the idea behind him. I was fortunate to have some free time tonight to mess around with this thing so I wanted to share some thoughts and pictures. To my surprise, Metroplex arrived today from the somewhat sketchy, seemingly a companion to the equally somewhat sketchy, after only 2 business days.
